Lisa Simone (USA)

Following in her mother’s footsteps (Nina Simone), Lisa Simone paves her own path

Daughter of the prominent Nina Simone, Lisa follows in her mother’s footsteps. She began singing in a club in Frankfurt where she got noticed by Joan Faulkner and Margarita Canteroqui who introduced her to a Cuban répertoire. She then accompanied the Spanish star Raphael Martos during his many tours around the world. From 1994 she played several roles in different Broadway musicals and received in 2002, the best actress award at the National Broadway Theatre Award for her role in Aïda. In 1999 Lisa joined her mother for the first time on stage. She continues with a 3 year incursion by joining Liquid Soul, a flagship band of the acid jazz stream, nominated for a Grammy Award in 2001. In 2008, Lisa Simone released an album paying homage to her mother who had passed away five years earlier and went on an international tour with it. Lisa has since released three solo albums, All is Well in 2014, My World in 2016, which propelled her into the jazz scene, and her latest album In need of Love released in 2019 which blends soul, gospel, blues and reggae. She wrote and composed this album alongside a long time friend Hervé Samb, a renowned pianist in the Parisian jazz scene and pioneer of contemporary African sound.

PAPJAZZ is proud to have Lisa Simone, who will introduce us to her latest album.
