A jazz icon at PAPJAZZ

The iconic Dee Dee Bridgewater is a 3 times Grammy Award winner and recipient of a Tony Award. Throughout her career, she has set herself as one of the most influential and important female jazz singers. She gained her first music experience as a group member of the legendary band, Thad Jones and Mel Louis. In the 70s she played alongside the biggest jazzmen of that time such as, Max Roach, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon and Dizzy Gillespie. She now has 20 albums under her belt. One of her biggest successes being her homage to Ella Fitzgerald Dear Ella, which she won 2 Grammy Awards for and received many nominations. She released her last album in 2017 forwich she won the NEA Jazz Masters prize. Simultaneously, Dee Dee Bridgewater pursued a career in musicals, where she played several roles which landed her a Tony Award. Dee Dee Bridgewater is also a UN goodwill ambassador for the FAO and calls for solidarity to finance international projects fighting against hunger in the world.
