The Yu ensemble was created in 2016 by Yaping Wang, a Taiwanese musician and composer. The Yu ensemble finds its inspiration in its deepest Taiwanese roots, that is where they find the ingredients for an innovative musicality and the source of deep emotion. YU’s music forms a bridge between the Orient and the West, the ancestral and modernity, between the thousand year old traditions of Taiwanese music and the instinctive, immediate yet ephemeral creation of jazz. the YU ensemble marries elements from Taiwanese, Japanese, Indian, American and Afghan musical traditions to create a unique music style that is as unprecedented as seductive.
