Josanne Francis (Trinidad & Tobago)

Josanne Francis steelpan artist, a first at PAPJAZZ!

Born and raised in Trinidad & Tobago, Josanne Francis is a steelpan artist and teacher. Even if her hands seem to float like butterflies on the pan, her music is far from being powerless. She draws her influences from traditional calypso music, jazz, Indian music, funk, rock and classical music – a unique blend that is not typical for this instrument. Josanne has performed in prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall, and has performed as a guest artist at festivals and universities throughout the United States. Josanne was one of six artists in residence at Strathmore for the 2017-2018 season, she is Artistic Director of the Cultural Academy for Excellence, Inc. and runs her own educational program at Stépan, Steel on Wheels. Josanne Francis will also host a xxx workshop at the Catts Pressoir School of Music.
