For the past ten years, flutist María Toro has been leading a project that spans several countries and continents, combining the cultures that she incorporates into her repertoire in an endless musical exploration. Initiated to the flute at the age of eight, she obtained her higher diploma in her native city and then went to Madrid to perfect her training, combining jazz and flamenco. In 2010, she began an international journey by joining the international flamenco company Flamencos on Route, based in Zurich, then moved to New York, where she recorded her first album, A contraluz, focused on flamenco jazz, with Jean Michel Pilc on piano, among others. During her Brazilian stage, she composed and recorded Araras (Jazz Activist, 2018). Back in Spain, she released Fume (Jazz Activist, 2020), while touring the repertoires of her previous albums around the world. Toro has also shared the stage with musicians such as Richard Bona and Jack Dejonette.
