Meddy Gerville (La Reunion)

Meddy Gerville, une voyage jazz au coeur de l’île de la Réunion

It’s a comeback to Haiti and to the PAPJAZZ for Meddy Gerville, a virtuoso pianist from Reunion Island who expresses his love for his island and his art through an invitation to travel between the world of Maloya and Jazz. Meddy devoted himself to music at a very early age, and played in some of the most popular musical groups of the island: Baster, Ti Fock, Sabouk… In 1997, he released his first album “Réunion Island” and was awarded the distinction of best pianist of the Indian Ocean. His creation is part of a jazz and maloya fusion called jazz’Oya or maloya jazz. Meddy Gerville has twenty years of career and 10 albums, the latest to date “My Maloya”, released in July 2020 is saluting the 10 years of recognition by UNESCO of Maloya to the World Heritage of Humanity. Gerville will be accompanied by Michel Alibo on bass and Emmanuel Félicite on drums.

A magnificent musical exploration with Creole colors in perspective.
