Nanm (Haiti)

NANM, la Réserve on January 26

Founded in April 2022, NANM embodies the very essence of vodou musicality with its seven dedicated members. Comprising a guitarist, a bassist, a keyboardist, a drummer, two drummers and a lead vocalist sometimes accompanied by two backing singers, this vibrant group is dedicated to exploring the rich musical traditions of Haiti. NANM’s clear aim is to resonate with the country’s ancient rhythms, living cultures and contemporary music. Their skilful artistic approach involves reclaiming vodou music from various Haitian territories, carefully adapting it in a contemporary style without distorting the original essence of the work.

At the heart of this musical fusion, the drum, a key and sacred instrument, plays a crucial role in ensuring a subtle balance between tradition and modernity. NANM not only reinterprets existing vodou songs, but also offers original compositions, creating a new melody that transcends time. With a captivating 14-track album already to their credit, entitled “Travèse”, the group has conquered the stages of the Haitian capital.
