Member of the jazz-rock fusion band Ultramarine alongside guitarist Nguyen Lê in the 80s, Mario Canonge reconnects with Caribbean music In 1991, La mazurka, la Biguine mixed with jazz and Zouk with his quartet Kann. In 2002 he forms the quartet ‘Sakésho’ with Andy Narell, Michel Alibo and Jean-Philippe Fanfant. He easily adapts to any style of music, jazz, Zouk or even salsa and easily bounces from one répertoire to another. Very sought after pianist, he has gathered multiple musical experiences by collaborating with Kassav, Malavoi, Ralph Thamar, Etienne Mbappé, Manu Dibango, Gino Sitson and many others. In 2004 he mainly puts his focuse on Caribbean jazz with ‘Rhizone’, which brought together musicians like Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Antonio Sanchez, Richard Bona and Roy Hargrove. In 2011 Mario Canonge released ‘Mitan’ then in 2014 CAB (Caraïbes, Afrique, Brésil) as a trio. In 2018 he is back with his 14th album entitled Zouk Out, mixing polished, upbeat, modern Zouk and Caribbean jazz.
A wonderful concert by Mario Canonge who will be joined by great Caribbean jazzmen, Annick Tangora, Ralph Thamar, Michel Alibo and Arnaud Dolmen.
