Nurturing the Next Generation:

In January 2024, we were thrilled to introduce a new and exciting addition to the Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival: the Kids Workshop. Designed to inspire and educate young minds, this initiative gave children a hands-on experience with various musical instruments, allowing them to explore the world of music in a fun and interactive environment.

The workshops were a resounding success, with eager participants learning about the different instruments that make up the rich tapestry of jazz music. From the smooth sounds of the saxophone to the rhythmic beats of the drums, each child had the opportunity to not only hear and see these instruments up close but also to play them. The joy and excitement on their faces as they struck their first note or created their first rhythm was truly inspiring.

Our goal with the Kids Workshop is simple yet profound: to ignite a passion for music in young children and to foster an early appreciation for the art of sound. By introducing them to the fundamentals of music and giving them the chance to experiment with instruments, we hope to plant the seeds that could one day grow into the next generation of Haitian musicians.

The overwhelming response from both the children and their parents has confirmed the importance of this initiative. We are excited to announce that the Kids Workshop will now be a permanent feature of the festival, returning every year to inspire and educate more young minds. We believe that through this program, we can help cultivate a new wave of talented musicians who will carry forward Haiti's rich musical heritage.
